Coffee Cup

  1. I'm feeling discouraged yet again.
I have to try this one again.

I'm not understanding how the light reflects off the ceramic cup.
And there are parts of it where the cup looks flat because there are no
    shades.

I'm trying to focus on simple shapes so I can understand the light better.
I think my shadow shades are too dark on the side of the cup.

    What do you think?

  2. Well this is clearly not a simple shape :)
As I said before you might wanna work with just cubes.
Using a striped cube is also a good exercise. (A red cube with a couple of white stripes)

Again It is not clear for me where the light is coming from.
If it's coming from the upper left, the right side of the cup won't get hit by a rim light.
The highlights would be mostly on the upper left side of the cup.
Also the bottom of the cup should be completely in shadow. The rim lights don't make sense since the cup is throwing a shadow on the table obscuring the bottom part of the cup by self shadows.

Try working on simpler shapes. So form and drawing doesn't get in your way.

  3. I did these before I read you last email about the cube.
I'll definitely try the striped cube for tomorrow's post.

The light was supposed to be coming from up above.
Like an ambient light from above. A ceiling light that would light a room.
I received your email with the paint over.
I'll post that now so I'll have some reference.

Thanks for the notes. I'll work with the cube next time.
    Baby steps! urgh
