Arch Way

  1. I tried to focus on the light first but then I got distracted by the details in the tile.
This one looks pretty ugly up close.

How should I simplify that next time? When there is such a large textural pattern?

  2. You could just indicate the tiles. Just draw a few and keep the rest plain.
If you look at the columns closely they have very slight gradients. From dark to light to dark. Also only the core shadow on the top is sharp. You painted two sharp transitions. The first transition is smooth almost unnoticeable and then there is the core shadow.

Also if you look carefully at the lit wall in the back you'll see that right next to the left of the bright spot you can see the bounce light affecting the left wall which you painted but that bounce light also affects the rear wall cause it bounces back from the left wall to the rear wall. It's very slight but those little details make the difference.

  3. Ok, I think I'll try this one again a little later.
I see what you mean about the bounce light and the transition in the core shadows.
