Window02

I took notes this time to really try and think about
what the light was doing. I also tried to simplify the
painting elements and finished this one in an hour.

  1. it's good that you are taking the time to really think what's going on. You didn't pick the easiest reference though. That is indirect overcast lighting coming through the window which makes it really difficult to understand the lighting situation. Since the your wall is painted red it the highlights wouldn't go towards white but just a lighter more saturated red. Same mistake as the pillows you did before. Just think of it that light is bringing the local color back. If it's a red wall it will become red. And always make sure that you can read the local colors of each element. For example I'm not sure what the floor color you have in your painting. In the reference you can see that it's white painted wood but in yours it's pale blue? Also the window seat will cast a shadow on the ground which you don't have in your painting. But anyhow it is a really tough reference.

I have a collection good references over here. It would be good if you pick some of these. I'm gonna keep adding photos to this so make sure to bookmark it :D

  2. Thanks, Goro.
I didn't realize it was overcast lighting.
Thanks for sharing your reference with me!
I'll keep trying to dissect the lighting.
