I was more focused on the color and light in this painting. The design wasn't really the first thing on my mind or perspective. eek. I think next time I should try and block in all the color first. Even if it's rough, I think it'll look better.
Notice how the shadows in the reference pic are much cooler than the lit areas? In your painting you stayed too warm in the shadows. Also the little triangle roofs on the red house wouldn't have such a dark shadow on the left side since the whole roof is in shadow. All faces should be pretty close in value.
